WLACE Home School Information and Requirements

WLACE is partnering with the home school community by offering unique learning opportunities through it's WLACE Home School Partnership. This free partnership program is available tofamilies who home school within Kent, Muskegon, Newaygo, Oceana and Ottawa County. Please note that you cannot participate if you are part of an online public school or academy (i.e.K-12). The Partnership services students who are in grades 1st-12th as part-time WLACE students by providing unique, beneficial and fun elective classes. The fantastic thing about the program is that families generate what they want to explore through our Partnership; suggestions for new classes are always welcome! All classes of the WLACE Home School Partnership are open to all non-home school students. However, transportation is not provided.

Registration Requirements

1. Each student must register for at least one or more seated classes and two virtual classes. A student may register for more than one seated class. Each student will receive $200 per semester to put towards Community Resource Classes (CRC) of their choosing. The CRC classes must align with at least one of the required virtual classes.

2. Each student must be present on the State of Michigan's Count Day. Count Day is a special day when all public schools in Michigan receive funding for students in attendance on this day. If a student does not attend their classes on Count Day then the State of Michigan will not consider them a legal student. Compliance with Count Day is very important as we will not get funding if your student is not in attendance on this day. Count Day is always the first Wednesday in October and the second Wednesday in February.

3. A Parent must finish registration up with Kathleen English, Home School Liaison by providing an original birth certificate, proof of residency (i.e. utility bill) and updated immunization records or an immunization waiver. You can get an immunization waiver from your local health department. The only waivers that are considered acceptable by the State of Michigan are those that come from your local health department; waivers that do not have the official seal are not acceptable. Please call Kathleen to finish up the registration process at (231) 893-0515 or email: kathleenenglish@wlace.org
